Growing area plots
We have an active food growing group who over the last few years have transformed the space behind the toilet block into a thriving food growing space. Local residents can apply for a plot by contacting the Friends. We maintain a waiting list, and generally have a turnover of several plots each year. Plots are prioritised for local residents without access to their own outside growing space. Annual fees for the plots are £10 for small plots, and £20 for larger ones.
We have communal tools for new growers to use and lots of advice available from other growers. The group aims to meet once a month to improve the site, by keeping the paths weed free, maintaining planters and water storage, tending to the compost, and opening up the area for local residents to look around.
Open community growing space
There is also space to grow in the planters next to the children’s centre where there are also hop plants growing and hops available at harvest time for anyone who brews their own beer. Anyone is welcome to use these plots, but please be mindful of other people’s plants, and of any activity being carried out by the children’s centre. If you have any questions about using this area please get in touch with us.
