Minutes for Friends of Hillside Gardens & Palace Road Nature Gardens 22 April 24

  2. Minutes of the Previous Meeting

The Minutes of the previous meeting were agreed to be a true and accurate record.

3. Chair’s Report

Andreas explained that, due to the way in which the website was previously privately set up, he is currently ‘locked out’. He is hoping to solve the problem. Evan suggested bringing further expertise to play if the issue persists.

Tom has bought three pairs of thorn-proof gloves and hopes to acquire others from Lambeth.

Film Festival: Steph has been in touch with the Streatham Film Festival, there is a date of 15th September; we agreed to have the St S & St J hall as a wet-weather back-up.

Weather station: there was discussion of having a weather station. Tom is going to research one that takes automatic readings, which can then be published online.

The Chair’s Report contained a detailed run down of sports/fun day activities. There was some discussion as to whether Walking Football should be open to all; Melodie will organise a table-tennis competition – probably with Rob and Indie – (a prize was suggested); Evan is contacting the Brixton Wildcats re basketball; Amy will check on the whereabout of the tug-of-war rope; Tom has sack for sack race; Tony old ties for 3-legged; Evan is chasing bike-marking; Tom Tai Chi; Dino will organise a Tennis Machine Challenge. We agreed to invite Static and out local councillors; to celebrate the mural, also the Mayor of Lambeth. We will also try to organise a mass group photo by way of celebration and publicity. Steph will get the fundraising buckets from the depot.

4. Gardening and Volunteering

Tom reported:

Steve is emptying the green bin.

60-70 hedgerow whips have been planted; with many different types and native species.

Wood chip is being delivered (Lambeth to open the gates).

Evan and others have been regularly litter-picking.

6 . Treasurer’s Report

There is £4632.55 in the account.

7. Tennis

Dino and Rosena reported:

Some fun tournaments have been held – under the banner ‘The Road to Wimbledon’ – including 14 and under, and adults. Road to Wimbledon will coincide with sports day.

Dino is managing the Lambeth Youth Team.

Two teams are in the Wilson Surrey Doubles League

Dino reported that coach Martin Torres had recently lost his wife; he was asked to pass on the condolences of the Friends.
